My name is Marcia Irene Avery (Mia) and I have had a passion for photography probably since adolescence. I did not pursue this interest because there was no way my parents would have accepted that I wanted to “take pictures” for a career. I have had a very successful and rewarding career as a Registered Nurse. Even though I completed a baccalaureate and a Master’s degree in Nursing and a Master's and doctoral degree in education, my interest in photography never waned. My first “real” camera was a Minolta 35mm film camera that I still have. When my friend’s nephew got married, I was the (unpaid) photographer. No one else thought to bring a camera and cell phones were not in existence. I had the only camera to document the day’s events. I began to actually study photography in 2013 by completing several online courses in photography, Lightroom, and Photoshop. My photography interests are not limited to a specific genre of photography. I think of myself as a generalist photographer – whatever captures my eye and interest. Two of my photos were published in Popular Photography Magazine and included in the Louisiana 2017 Mentor Series. As you enter my galleries, you will see that my interests are varied and somewhat erratic. I am a true Gemini and the twins reveal themselves through my photography. So stop by often and see new additions to my galleries and new galleries. Welcome to my world of photography!
